About:

The rock group Concrete Sky was formed in 2002 and is based in Hampton Roads, Virginia. The bands goal was always to create great music and one day make a good living playing it full time. Their music is occasionally politically influenced but more so, it is written of real life experiences.

History:

Within months after forming, Concrete Sky started gigging and recording their first cd “Glow” (Aboni Records). Released in 2004, the cd was a diverse collection of various styles of rock, showcasing guitarist Bob Hembree’s songwriting skills, singer Bert Croswell’s strong vocals and the musical talents of the whole band. The band played extensively locally and traveled from Virginia to New York City doing gigs to promote their debut cd.

In 2004 -2005 the band was busy. Concrete Sky was gigging more as an original act than most cover bands. They were signed by Statue Records out of Los Angeles. They topped the charts on www.soundclick.com in 7 different music genres. They also signed an artist development deal with Loren Israel (Coldplay, Beck, Jimmy Eats World).

While Glow had some great moments musically including an adventurous side, heavy stuff, a soft side, even the ultimate in experimental weirdness, some think the band seemed to lack a specific genre direction.

In 2006 the band started recording their follow up cd “Every Face I Spend” at world renowned Windmark Studios in Virginia Beach. Some time after the basic tracks were recorded, the studio was sold to the famous production team “The Neptunes”, and the band was told that all unfinished recordings would have to be picked up. About this time the band stopped playing live and the members started drifting into their own music projects. Concrete Sky bassist Dan Foster spent a good amount of 2007 recording, mixing and producing the final tracks to “Every Face I Spend” at former Windmark Recording chief engineer Skip DeRupa’s home studio. Dan states “I always felt strongly about this music, it just plain kicks ass! I knew it would do well if I could get people to hear it.”
